Conflict threatens food security in Near East and North Africa

Conflict, rapid population growth and urbanization are posing serious challenges for food security in the Near East and North Africa, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Despite progress made in some countries, the number of undernourished people in the region remains high.

Nearly 43.7 million people, or 10 percent of the overall population, are reported undernourished.

Sandra Ferrari asked Nasredin HagElamin a senior policy officer for FAO about the current situation in the region.
