UN Secretary-General attends World Economic Forum in Davos

Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon

The UN Secretary-General is due to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday.

Ban Ki-moon is joining over 2,500 political and business leaders as well members of civil society attending the annual event to discuss global political, economic, technological and environmental issues.

This year the World Economic Forum is focusing on climate change and designated Friday as Climate Day.

Secretary-General Ban is expected to speak about how governments and business can work together to tackle climate change and the opportunity presented by the upcoming 2014 Climate Summit in September.

In his address, Mr. Ban is also expected to talk about the need to support the post 2015 development agenda.

The year 2015 is the deadline for achieving the Millennium Development Goals, which include eradicating extreme poverty, combating diseases, promoting gender equality and ensuring environmental sustainability.
