UN chief thanks Germany for its "strong support” to the UNListen /
Germany has been thanked for what the UN chief has called its "strong support" for the work of the United Nations.
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon told reporters in Berlin on Thursday that Syria, the Middle East, South Sudan and Central Africa were among the issues he discussed with German officials.
"In our discussions I expressed my sincere and strongest gratitude for Germany’s strong support for the United Nations in the area of peace and security and development and protecting human rights around the world, and more importantly, the strong commitment to multilateralism."(21")
The Secretary-General highlighted Germany's role in peace-building and disarmament as well as enhancing respect for human rights.
Germany, he added, was also a strong supporter of international development efforts.
Mr. Ban said that later this week he will address the Munich Security Conference where he "will stress that global security ultimately depends on sustainable development"
