Syrian women are hoping that next week's international conference in Geneva will be a "serious step" towards ending the violence and bloodshed in their homeland.  Their expectations are laid out in a document resulting from a two-day meeting in Geneva convened by UN Women and the Netherlands government.

Sports to improve employment opportunities for women

Women can overcome obstacles that prevent them getting into the job market by engaging more in sports, according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO).  Young people are up to three times more likely to be unemployed than adults, but women in particular face more barriers to work than their male peers.

Across the Middle East, Syrian refugees, youth and women are being trained to become radio journalists so that they can tell their personal stories.  The project is an initiative of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and is currently operational in Jordan and Lebanon, as well as the occupied Palestinian territory.  To learn more about the programme, May Yaacoub spoke to Courtney Radsch of UNESCO's Section for Freedom of Expression.
