Syrian government and opposition to meet in same room on SaturdayListen /
Delegations of the Syrian government and opposition have agreed to meet in the same room for the first time in Geneva on Saturday.
The announcement was made by the joint United Nations-Arab League envoy for Syria, Lakhdar Brahimi after meeting both delegations on Friday.
The talks to end the three year-conflict in Syria started in Montreux earlier in the week before moving to Geneva.
"The discussions I’ve had with the two parties were encouraging and we are looking forward to our meetings tomorrow morning and tomorrow afternoon. ” (16″)
Lakhdar Brahimi is leading global diplomatic efforts to end the conflict that has claimed more than 100,000 lives and displaced millions of others.
The UN-Arab League envoy hopes to get the Syrian parties to agree on a political solution that will bring lasting peace to the country.
