Lebanon praised for keeping borders open to refugeesListen /
Lebanon has been praised by the United Nations for keeping its borders open to refugees fleeing the ongoing violence in Syria.
Currently over 900,000 refugees are being sheltered in the country, stretching resources to the limit.
Dereck Plumbly is the UN Coordinator in Lebanon.
"Lebanon has kept its borders open. Lebanon has been a safe place of refuge for Syrians fleeing for their lives and that is very much to Lebanon's credit. The truth is that now there is approaching a quarter of the population which is from Syria."
Lebanon is expected to be one of the main beneficiaries of funds that were pledged for humanitarian aid at a UN-led conference in Kuwait.
