Education "greatest" role of UN to prevent genocide says Spielberg

The internationally known film director, Steven Spielberg, has told the United Nations that the "greatest" role the organization can play to prevent genocide is to educate people.

Mr Spielberg has been participating in events at the UN marking the 70th anniversary of the deportation of over half a million Jews from Hungary to the German Nazi death camps.

2014 will mark the 20th anniversary of the USC Shoah Foundation Institute, which was founded by Mr Spielberg following the filming of Schindler's list.

The institute is a long-standing partner of the Holocaust and the United Nations Outreach Programme.

Stephane Dujarric asked Mr Spielberg how important the UN has been in his personal life.
