UN chief appalled by attack on UNAMID convoy that killed two peacekeepersListen /
Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has condemned in the strongest terms a cowardly attack by unidentified assailants on a convoy of the African Union-United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur (UNAMID) peacekeepers near Greida, South Darfur, on Sunday in which a Jordanian and a Senegalese peacekeeper were killed.
A statement from his Spokespersons' Office said one assailant was killed and another injured by UNAMID peacekeepers in return fire.
The Secretary-General expects the Government of Sudan to swiftly bring to justice those responsible for this and previous attacks on UNAMID.
He expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the fallen peacekeepers and to the Governments of Senegal and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
