Sexual exploitation, especially involving women from Nigeria and Eastern Europe, is the most prevalent and documented form of trafficking in Italy.

Joy Ngozi Ezeilo, the UN Special Rapporteur on Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and Children, conducted a 10-day official mission to the country in September.

At a detention centre in the city of Turin she met victims like Pamela, a young Nigerian woman who was tricked into trafficking by a family friend who had promised her a well-paying job as a nanny.

Daljit Daliwal has the story.
