Equity will be focus of 7th World Urban Forum next yearListen /
Inequities in cities and towns will be the focus of the Seventh World Urban Forum scheduled to take place in Medellin, Colombia, in April next year.
That's what Joan Clos, Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN–Habitat), told reporters during a briefing on the Forum on Monday.
He said growing inequities in urbanization worldwide, which have resulted in unrest, continue to be a big challenge.
“We are seeing an impact of big immigration to developed cities and the difficulties that the cities have to integrate in an equitable manner this very important influx of the population. We are seeing in other parts of the world the impact of people coming out of war, conflicts, or natural disasters and arriving also to the city as a means of personal safety."
The World Urban Forum is convened by UN-Habitat every two years to discuss issues of urbanization.
