The Least Developed Countries Report 2013 – UNCTAD

The world's poorest countries need to create decent jobs to break the cycle of poverty and avoid social instability, according to the latest report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).

Forty-nine countries are currently designated by the United Nations as "Least Developed Countries" or LDCs ranging from Afghanistan to Zambia.

These countries are facing demographic challenges as their population is projected to double to 1.7 billion by 2050. The majority population will be young and of working age.

Jocelyne Sambira reports.
