Pressure mounts against Ugandan LRA rebels

• There is progress in the efforts against the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) in Central Africa, according to a senior UN diplomat. Ambassador Abou Moussa, the head of the UN Office in Central Africa (UNOCA) briefed the Security Council on Wednesday. He said the LRA is now on the run in the face of military pressure from a regional force.

• Mia Farrow, world renowned American actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador visited the Central African Republic recently. She travelled to the north-western region of the country where more than 40,000 people have been displaced by violence. Although there is a transitional government entrusted with restoring law and order, armed clashes have continued in the country.

UN police help to consolidate rule of law in South Sudan

• Police officers serving at the UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) are helping to consolidate the rule of law in the country, says Police Commissioner Fred Yiga. He is part of a group of officers who are in New York this week to review the growing importance of UN police. Mr. Yiga spoke to UN Radio about the work of UN police in South Sudan.
