Accord paves way for return of Somali refugees in Kenya

• The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) and the governments of Kenya and Somalia on Sunday signed an accord on the return of Somali refugees from Kenya. Kenya is hosting over 470,000 Somali refugees. UNHCR says about 60,000 Somali refugees have already spontaneously returned home as the situation continues to stabilize in their country.

South Sudan gets its first group of fingerprint experts

• The capacity of the police to fight crime in South Sudan has been enhanced with the graduation of a group of 23 fingerprint experts. The UN Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) helped in their training. The police force in the new African nation has now established the National Fingerprint Bureau.

Cycling helps overcome genocide trauma in Rwanda

Rising from Ashes

• 'Rising from Ashes,' a documentary film about the Rwandan cycling team was screened at the United Nations on Tuesday. Members of the team include survivors of the 1994 genocide in which Hutu extremists killed approximately one million people, mainly Tutsis and moderate Hutus. The coach of Team Rwanda says cycling is helping to promote reconciliation in the country.
