World needs new, innovative financing strategies to drive development

New and innovative sources of funding are needed to supplement decreasing official development assistance (ODA) to developing countries.

That's the conclusion made by delegates attending a two day High-level Dialogue on Financing for Development.

In the year 2000, UN Member States together with the world's leading development institutions agreed on a blueprint to scale up action against extreme poverty, hunger and disease by 2015.

The shortfall in development funds has affected the attainment of the anti-poverty goals.
