UN-Arab League envoy for Syria heads to the region for talks on Geneva II conferenceListen /
The UN-Arab League envoy for Syria will be travelling to the Middle East over the coming week as part of the efforts to convene an international conference on Syria.
Joint Special Representative Lakhdar Brahimi will be in Egypt on Saturday where he will meet with the country's Foreign Minister in connection with the conference known as Geneva II.
That information comes from his spokesperson Khwala Mattar, who spoke to journalists in Geneva on Friday.
"The tour will cover several countries of the region, but unfortunately and due to the Eid holiday, we are still finalizing and these countries will be announced as we go on on the tour.” (13″)
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has indicated that Geneva II will most probably be held in the second half of November.
The first international meeting on Syria was held in the Swiss city in June 2012 resulting in the endorsement of the Geneva Communiqué which provided a framework for political transition in Syria.
