Post-2015 agenda should bring about inclusive and sustainable development: DominicaListen /
South-South Cooperation continues to play a significant role in assisting small countries like Dominica achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) targets, the permanent Representative of Dominica Ambassador Vince Henderson told the 68th UN General Assembly on Tuesday.
He said Dominica's commitment to the MDGs should see a redoubling of efforts towards the post-2015 agenda that will bring about development which is inclusive and sustainable.
” It is imperative that the development agenda beyond 2015 remains the focus for the United Nations particularly in terms of relieving poverty and protecting our planet. A meaningful agenda must take into account the significance of the need for an international legally binding commitment to combat climate change, the development and deployment of sustainable energy, the sustainable use of oceans and marine resources, sustainable industrial development, and international peace and security.” (47″)
Ambassador Henderson said there was general consensus that sustainable development and poverty eradication should form the core of the Sustainable Development Goals and the post-2015 development agenda. He said we cannot address the issue of poverty eradication without addressing the issues of wealth creation and economic growth.
