A new energy efficiency hub opened in Copenhagen, Denmark on Wednesday, under the umbrella of the UN Secretary-General's Sustainable Energy for All initiative.

The hub aims to serve as a centre of global efforts to double energy efficiency by 2013.

Ban Ki-moon made the announcement on Tuesday, at the annual conference of the Global Green Growth Forum.

"Copenhagen is now also home to the UNFCCC Climate Technology Centre and the new energy efficiency hub under Sustainable Energy for All, which will be launched tomorrow. I count on these entities to contribute to global green growth in the coming decades."

The Forum is a partnership between the Governments of Denmark, Korea, Mexico, China, Kenya and other global corporations and international organizations.

Denmark, host of the forum and founding Member of the United Nations, is a world leader in energy efficiency and climate-friendly technology and policy, noted Mr. Ban.
