Former combatants in South Sudan graduate for reintegration as civiliansListen /
As South Sudan continues efforts to reform its security sector, the first batch of former combatants recently graduated after vocational training in Western Bahar el Ghazal State.
The Pilot Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration Programme started in 2012, with close to 300 ex-combatants from four surrounding states.
They were trained for more than three months in animal husbandry, carpentry, electrical science, farming and gardening, plumbing, masonry, motor mechanics and welding.
President Salva Kiir Mayardit and the top United Nations envoy in South Sudan, Hilde Johnson, attended the graduation ceremony.
