Cyber security topped the agenda at the first-ever international Model UN Security Council Conference, in the West Asian nation of Azerbaijan.

In Model UN, students step into the shoes of ambassadors from UN Member States to debate current global issues.

The simulation was co-organized by Azerbaijan’s  Ministry of Youth and Sport, as well as the UN Development Programme (UNDP).

UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, participated in the opening session of the programme.

“This event comes at an important time and it allows youth from the actual members of the Security Council to come here and debate issues- a very important issue- which is cyber security; at a time where most of the challenges we are facing are global in nature. The role of international organizations becomes even more important and relevant and providing a plan for these challenges." (19″)

Azerbaijan being the President of the Security Council this month, the youth participants in Model UN in Baku come from all countries currently members of the Security Council.
