Doctor in DR Congo helps restore dignity to rape victimsListen /
Women who have been raped and mutilated by armed men in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have a strong ally in Dr. Denis Mukwege.
He is the founder and medical director of Panzi Hospital in Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu province in the eastern part of the country.
Last year, Dr. Mukwege was attacked by unidentified gunmen at his home and his bodyguard was killed in the attack.
The Congolese doctor came to UN Headquarters on Thursday to meet with the UN Secretary-General and thank him for his support and for the protection he is getting from the UN mission in the DR Congo.
UN Radio's Derrick Mbatha caught up with Dr. Mukwege to find out how Panzi Hospital is helping rape victims in the DR Congo.
