UN human rights chief reiterates call for action to end conflict in Syria

The urgency of stopping the ongoing violence in Syria was once again underlined on Monday by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay. Speaking in the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Ms. Pillay said the civilian population continues to suffer in Syria. Derrick Mbatha reports.


Liberalization boosts growth in Myanmar


Myanmar has made impressive strides in opening and liberalizing the economy, boosting growth and the economic outlook, but the formerly isolated country still faces some challenges, according to the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

To mark the annual assessment of the country's economy, IMF's David Schulman asked Matt Davies, the agency's Mission Chief for Myanmar, how the country's rapid political change has transformed its economic potential.


Bangladeshi law student enriches UN knowledge

Fahmida Faiza, a 19-year old Bangladeshi law student at the University of London's Distance Learning Programme, hopes to be a diplomat or an ambassador for her country one day. She recently participated in a United Nations workshop on the rules and procedures for Model UN (MUN) organizers and participants conducted by the UN Department of Public Information (DPI). Faiza told UN Radio's Beng Poblete-Enriquez that she considers the experience a lifetime opportunity.
