Trial of Kenyan Deputy President starts in The HagueListen /
• Kenya's Deputy President and a radio journalist appeared before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Tuesday. They are accused of crimes against humanity for allegedly orchestrating the violence that followed the country's 2007 elections. The Kenyan Parliament has voted to pull out of the ICC accusing it of political interference in their country.
UN nuclear agency supports the fight against cancer in Africa
• Cancer cases are increasing in Africa, but the continent lacks trained technicians and healthcare professionals to face this challenge. The UN nuclear agency's Virtual University for Cancer Control and Regional Training Network (VUCCnet) is helping to fill this gap. It is an e-learning and traditional teaching approach to improve Africa's capacity to prevent and treat cancer.
Ghanaian student activist advocates for UN work in his country
• Students from around the world gathered at the UN recently to participate in a workshop on the rules and procedures of the United Nations. The workshop was organized for Model UN which simulates the UN General Assembly or Security Council and other multilateral bodies. A participant from Ghana says he has learned a lot from the workshop.
