More children in Ethiopia thriving beyond their fifth birthday

Even in remote parts of Ethiopia, more children are thriving beyond their fifth birthday.

In the past decade, Ethiopia has managed to slash child mortality rates by half, rising in the global rank from 146 in 2000 to 68 in 2012. That's according to a new report by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) entitled “A Promise Renewed" which examines trends in child mortality since 1990.

One of the reasons is because Ethiopia has made an effort to deploy health workers to the most remote parts of the country.
