Kenya's Deputy President pleads innocent to war crimes charges

Kenya's Deputy President William Ruto has pleaded not guilty to charges of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court.

Mr Ruto Mr Ruto is accused of being criminally responsible as an indirect co-perpetrator of the 2007/08 post election violence in which over 1,200 people were killed and thousands displaced.

His co-accused Joshua arap Sang, a local radio journalist also pleaded not guilty.

The charges against Mr Ruto and Mr Sang include murder, forcible displacement of population and persecution.

The trial of Kenya's President Uhuru Kenyatta who is also facing war crimes charges before the ICC is expected to commence in November.
