Immunization campaigns have been conducted around Kenya to contain the outbreak of polio that has gripped the country since May.

United Nations agencies, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) and the UN children's Fund (UNICEF) are helping to sensitize people about polio.

According to the United Nations agencies, there are now over 100 cases of polio which were reported first in Somalia, then Kenya and lately Ethiopia.

The efforts to contain the outbreak in Kenya are especially concentrated in and around the Dadaab refugee camps, housing thousands of Somalis who fled conflict in their country.

Jocelyne Sambira reports.
