G20 economies challenged to create more and better jobs

Listen /

Foreign Ministers from the world's 20 leading economies will be meeting later this week in Saint Petersburg, Russia, for the G20 summit.

With an estimated 200 million people worldwide unemployed—nearly half of them in G20 countries—the head of the International Labour Organization (ILO) is urging the summit to take "decisive action" on job creation.

ILO Director-General Guy Ryder is also calling for particular attention to issues such as minimum wage levels, decent working conditions and what he describes as "the real social drama" of youth unemployment.

Prior to travelling to Russia, Ryder sat down with the ILO's Patrick Moser to discuss his main message to the G20 summit.
