"Being poor is not being stupid" – President of MalawiListen /
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Malawi could have been achieved if the economy had not been mismanaged, according to the President of Malawi.
Joyce Banda, who became the president of Malawi in April, last year, is the country's first female president.
She says Malawi "went through a lot of human rights abuses" and when she took over, the economy had collapsed because of mismanagement and nepotism.
President Banda tells UN Radio's Joshua Mmali that the government of Malawi went off track in implementing the MDGs.
