UNESCO has new Goodwill Ambassador for SportListen /
A 2012 Olympic Gold medalist is being nominated to serve as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Sport from 2013 to 2015.
Kazakh boxing champion Serik Sapiyev will be appointed by UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova in a ceremony that will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan on 24 August.
The welterweight is being nominated in recognition of his commitment to promoting education and sports programmes for young people in Kazakhstan, his charitable activities, and his dedication to the ideals and aims of UNESCO.
In his capacity as a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for Sport, Serik Sapiyev will support UNESCO's activities promoting the values of education and sport, with a focus on projects and activities concerning young people and heritage, the environment, and HIV/AIDS.
UNESCO Goodwill Ambassadors are outstanding celebrity advocates who spread the ideals of UNESCO through their name and fame, and draw attention to UNESCO's work.
