UNMISS, the UN Mission in the Republic of South Sudan, welcomes the appointment of a new Cabinet of the Government of the Republic of South Sudan, which was announced on 31 July 2013.

The installation of the new, leaner and restructured Cabinet, says the Mission, offers the Government a new opportunity to deliver on key priorities for the country.

The Mission stands ready to work closely with the new Cabinet, once sworn in, to advance South Sudan’s reform agenda, including combating corruption, transformation of the security sector, and providing essential services to the people.

It also looks forward to working with the new Cabinet on protecting civilians and strengthening core state institutions.

In this regard UNMISS urges the new Cabinet to do its utmost to forge national unity and solidarity and respect the rights of all South Sudanese citizens.
