Secretary-General urges Lebanese to remain united following deadly car bombingListen /
The UN Secretary-General has strongly condemned the deadly car bombing that took place in a neighbourhood in Lebanon's capital, Beirut, on Thursday.
In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ban Ki-moon says such acts of violence are completely unacceptable and only reinforce the determination of the international community to continue supporting Lebanon's security and stability at a time of severe regional turbulence.
According to media reports, at least 14 people were killed in the blast which targeted the Rouweiss neighbourhood in the southern Beirut suburbs. More than 200 people were reportedly injured.
Mr. Ban urges all Lebanese to remain united and to focus on safeguarding their country's security and stability, adding that he hopes the perpetrators of the attack will be brought to justice as soon as possible.
