Secretary-General congratulates Mali on successful presidential elections

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has congratulated the authorities and people of Mali for the successful conduct of presidential elections, provisional results of which were announced on Thursday.

As Mali awaits confirmation of the results, Mr. Ban has congratulated Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta on his election as President, according to a statement issued by the Secretary-General's spokesperson.

The Secretary-General also acknowledged the acceptance of the outcome by second-place candidate Soumaïla Cissé, and saluted his commitment to democratic principles.

The Secretary-General reiterated the UN's commitment to accompany Mali in the next phase of its stabilisation and peace consolidation process.
