• On 28 July, the citizens of Mali took to the polls to cast their vote in the first round of presidential elections. The recently established UN Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) commended the West African country for the peaceful conduct of the elections, turnout for which was reportedly high across the country.
A former Lost Boy finds joy in giving back to South Sudan
• Manyang Reath arrived in the United States from Sudan in 2005 having spent years in a camp for people displaced by two decades of fighting between the north and south of the country. Reath founded the Humanity Helping Sudan Project which seeks to address ongoing problems in South Sudan such as food insecurity and unemployment.
UN mission helps to keep the peace in Liberia
• The UN Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) has been supporting the country's efforts to consolidate peace gains in the aftermath of civil war in the 1990s which killed more than 200,000 people. Major-General Leonard Muriuki Ngondi of Kenya, UNMIL Force Commander talks to UN Radio's Ben Malor about its work.
