Internally displaced Somali women continue to face sexual and gender-based violence

Sexual and gender- based violence have been pervasive in Somalia, according to the spokesperson for the Office of the Coordination for Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

Jens Laerke added that during the first half of the year, 800 cases were reported in Mogadishu alone, and the internally displaced Somali women continue to be the most affected.

He says rape continues to be perpetrated by unknown armed men and men wearing military uniform.
