The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is urging the authorities in Afghanistan to make every effort to protect the country's women parliamentarians following the abduction of an MP and her children earlier this month.

IPU spokesperson Jemini Pandya fears incidents like this could affect women's overall political participation and representation in the country.
