Human Rights chief urges investigation into alleged execution of Syrian government soldiersListen /
UN Human Rights High Commissioner Navi Pillay is calling for an investigation into the alleged execution of Syrian government soldiers by armed opposition groups in the Khan Al-Assal district in Aleppo.
Footage posted online last week shows the killing of dozens of soldiers captured after a battle there in July. The Human Rights chief says if verified, it would suggest executions had been committed.
UN Radio's Patrick Maigua spoke to Liz Throssell, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights office which is based in Geneva.
She says although it's yet to be established exactly who carried out the alleged executions, a Human Rights Team in the region is analyzing the videos and is working to gather further information.
