Human rights chief calls on Hamas authorities to stop executions in GazaListen /
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Navi Pillay, has called on the Hamas authorities in Gaza not to carry out death sentences.
The call follows several announcements by the Attorney-General in Gaza that executions of people sentenced to death would take place after the Eid al-Fitr celebrations.
Ms. Pillay is appealing to the de facto authorities in Gaza to implement a moratorium on executions and to fully uphold and promote the right to life.
UN Radio's Patrick Maigua discusses the issue with Elizabeth Throssell, a spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office in Geneva.
