Syrian authorities and UN officials conclude ‘productive’ talks on mission into alleged chemical weapons useListen /
The UN disarmament chief and the head of the UN mission that will investigate the alleged use of chemical weapons in Syria have concluded a two-day visit to the country.
UN High Representative for Disarmament Affairs Angela Kane and Professor Åke Sellström were in the capital, Damascus, this week for consultations on the work of the mission.
In a joint statement with the Syrian government released late on Friday, they said the discussions were thorough and productive and have led to an agreement on the way forward.
The UN officials were in Syria from 24 to 25 July where they met with the Deputy Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Their visit followed an invitation by the government made earlier this month.
