Ban counting on Israelis and Palestinians to revive the two-state solutionListen /
"I now count on the Israelis and Palestinians to respond courageously to revive the two-state solution," Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said Thursday in remarks to the media before meeting with United States Secretary of State John Kerry.
The Secretary-General said "hard negotiations lie ahead and only the parties can make the tough choices. But at least there is now a basis for hope". He said the United Nations is prepared to lend its full support.
According to the Secretary-General, he and Secretary Kerry will also discuss how to end the horrendous suffering in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and support the Peace, Security and Development Framework for the DRC and the region.
He noted that with tensions rising again, it is imperative that all parties implement their commitments.
Secretary-General Ban pointed out that beyond these immediate crises, Secretary Kerry is also helping the United Nations to combat climate change and achieve sustainable development, which he said are among the keys to long-term global prosperity and security.
