On World Refugee Day observed on 20 June, the United Nations refugee agency (UNHCR) has launched a One Family campaign.

It is aimed at highlighting the plight of families that are torn apart by wars and forced to flee their homes.

Former Afghan refugee Khaled Hosseini author of "The Kite Runner", an international best seller, is one of the UNHCR Goodwill Ambassadors who have recorded public service announcements for the campaign.

"In one minute a family can lose everything- their homes, their loved ones, their future. But in a minute you can help a refugee family find shelter, comfort and hope. Please take a minute and help UNHCR protect a family. Go to www.unhcr.org/1 family." (25")

According to UNHCR, there are more than 40 million refugees and internally displaced people around the world.

The agency is providing lifesaving assistance and protection to 34 million of them.
