The Day is observed every year on the 8th of June and is designed to raise awareness of the current challenges faced by the international community in connection with the oceans. This year's theme, Oceans and People, focused on the impact of the oceans on the peoples and cultures of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific regions.
Lucy Liu Visits Lebanon to Shine Spotlight on Plight of Syrian Refugee Children
UNICEFAmbassador Lucy Liu recently visited an underfunded Syrian refugee camp in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. Ms. Liu, an American actress, model and artist of Chinese descent, saw first-hand the dire situation for Syrian children and their families who have fled a crisis that has left more than 90,000 people dead and nearly six million displaced from their homes.
