Physical or sexual violence is a public health problem that affects more than one-third of all women globally, according to a new report released by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The report says some 35 per cent of women worldwide will experience either intimate partner or non-partner violence. The study also finds that intimate partner violence is the most common type of violence against women, affecting 30 per cent of women around the world.

Professor Naeemah Abrahams from the South African Medical Research Council spoke to UN Radio's Patrick Maigua in Geneva about the findings of the report and how it relates to Africa.
