UNESCO chief condemns murder of Ugandan journalistListen /
The head of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is urging authorities in Uganda to fully investigate the murder of a local journalist and to bring those responsible for his death to justice.
UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova released a statement on Wednesday condemning the killing of Thomas Pere whose body was found on the outskirts of the capital, Kampala, on 17 June.
Pere reported on social issues for the New Vision newspaper. Colleagues said they last saw him on the evening of 16 June when he left the office to return home.
UNESCO says Pere is the fourth journalist killed in Uganda in nearly three years.
