Syrian crisis forces women to opt for "preventive" caesarean sections: UNFPA

As the crisis continues in Syria, hundreds of thousands of women there are awaiting one of the most defining moments of their lives: giving birth.

But the ongoing violence and instability means that anywhere from 35 to 65 per cent of mothers-to-be in some areas are opting to deliver their babies by caesarean section, according to the UN Population Fund (UNFPA).
