The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria has briefed the Security Council on its latest report on human rights violations and other crimes committed in the country's ongoing conflict.

The commission was established two years ago by the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, and for the first time it documents the systematic imposition of sieges, the use of chemical agents and forcible displacement.

Following Friday's meeting, commission chairman Paulo Sérgio Pinheiro spoke to UN Radio's Leda Letra and reiterated his belief that there is no military solution to the Syrian crisis.

The Brazilian diplomat says although lack of access to Syria continues to hamper the commission's work, this does translate into a lack of information.
