Secretary-General appalled by killing of foreign mountaineers in PakistanListen /
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is urging the authorities in Pakistan to take immediate measures to bring perpetrators of terrorism and extremism to justice and ensure security.
This follows the killing of a group of foreign mountaineers and their local guide in northern Pakistan on Sunday.
The Pakistani Taliban has claimed responsibility.
In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mr. Ban said he was appalled by the killings and extended his condolences to the victims' families.
The Secretary-General added that he was deeply concerned by the increase in terrorist attacks and bombings in Pakistan that have killed dozens of civilians in recent weeks alone.
