Battling child labour in MalawiListen /
• Almost 1.5 million children in Malawi are in child labour, but attitudes are changing. A programme backed by the International Labour Organization (ILO) has helped thousands of children to escape child labour. It provides them with an education or vocational training.
First Kiswahili edition of Human Development Report launched
• The UN Development Programme (UNDP) has launched the first Kiswahili summary edition of its 2013 Human Development Report. UNDP says Kiswahili is especially important because it is now spoken by an estimated 150 million people in Africa. Kiswahili is an official language in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Rwanda genocide fugitives will continue to be tracked
• Fugitives sought for the crimes they allegedly committed during the 1994 genocide in Rwanda will be tracked and arrested even after the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) has wrapped up its work. This message has come from the Prosecutor of the ICTR. He said the tribunal, based in Arusha, Tanzania has concluded the trial phase of its work.
