UN envoy outlines her vision for Great Lakes region of AfricaListen /
The United Nations Special Envoy for the Great Lakes Region of Africa on Monday briefed the Security Council on her first mission to the region.
Mary Robinson, former President of Ireland and former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights spent last week meeting with African leaders in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Uganda, Burundi, South Africa and Ethiopia.
Her focus has been on encouraging the leaders to implement the UN-brokered "Peace, Security and Cooperation Framework for the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Region" signed in Addis Ababa in February.
