Syrian conflict results in over 1.5 million refugees

A recent agreement by Russia and the United States to hold an international conference to end the conflict in Syria has raised hopes that the crisis can be resolved.

The ongoing conflict in Syria featured prominently in discussions between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon during a brief visit to Sochi on Friday.

The two top diplomats agreed that a negotiated political solution is the only way to end the conflict in Syria.
