Several United Nations agencies are warning of an acute humanitarian crisis in Gao in eastern Mali.

Gao was affected by the fighting that broke out in 2012 in northern Mali between the national army and Tuareg rebels.

A recent UN inter-agency mission to Gao to assess humanitarian needs found that the water supply needs rehabilitation.

It also found that there is a need for increased food assistance.

Gerry Adams reports.
