General Assembly to vote on resolution on SyriaListen /
It is high time to say "enough is enough" when it comes to the crisis in Syria, General Assembly President Vuk Jeremić stated on Wednesday.
Ambassadors are meeting in the chamber to vote on a resolution on the situation, which Jeremić called "a grave test for the UN."
"I believe that the tides of history are not indifferent to the cause of justice. If we are unable to do anything to stop this tragedy, then how can we sustain the moral credibility of this Organization? I believe that it is high time to say 'enough is enough.' Enough with complacency, and enough with fratricide. ”
Syria, he said, is engulfed in an escalating maelstrom of ferocious violence that has killed at least 80,000 people over the past two years.
And he warned that what happens there in the coming weeks and months will profoundly bear upon the security and well-being of the region, and possibly beyond.
